BAR - CREATIVE HUB - SAFER SPACE
In the summer of 2021 Bar Bario opened it's doors for the first time. Our intention was simple: To be a living room for marginalized communities. A regular bar for those who wouldn't feel safe and comfortable in the rest of Amsterdam.
Good drinks, good energy, good company.
From there, we grew into way more than just a bar: Our gallery space has hosted over 70 exhibitions and 600 events, for us, by us. From pole dancing classes to art therapy - Bar Bario had something happening for everyone.
Now, in 2026, Bar Bario is transforming into something beyond a pub - BeyondBario. With the same warm and inclusive intentions, we're focussing on programming Queer, BIPOC and Beyond events, exhibitions and pop-up bars.
BEYONDBARIO
BeyondBario continues the mission of Bar Bario: creating safe, inclusive spaces for the Queer, Trans and BIPOC communities, with a focus on artistic expression, community-building, and visibility.
With 5 years of experience in intersectional inclusive event and exhibition curation, we have collaborated with individuals, organizations, institutions and commercial companies on many events and exhibitions. The themes we have touched on are Blackness, Biculturality, entrepreneurship, Queernesss, the Trans experience, Keti Koti, gentrification, ecofeminism, refugees and immigration, Black womanhood and many more.
We have collaborated with institutions like Amsterdams 4 en 5 mei comite, MenasWell, Melkweg, van Gogh museum, Amsterdam Museum, Verzetsmuseum, IDFA, Holland Festival, and more.
Through exhibitions, Bario Radio panel talks, meaningful programming, pop-up cocktail bars, collaborations, and visibility & representation, we amplify marginalized voices and perspectives; we create spaces for connection. Our ethos is to invite everyone to the table and build bridges, through community-building and creative partnerships.
At our core, we spotlight underrepresented stories and themes through art and community events.
